This morning I arrived in NYC to attend the SES NY Conference that officially gets underway tomorrow at the New York Hilton. I was here a year ago for this conference and learned a bunch and met a lot of people. So I’m back for round two and this year I’m a little wiser so I’m going for the more advanced search sessions.
Tomorrow morning we kick off the conference with an opening keynote speaker Guy Kawasaki, the infamous Tweeter, with a talk entitled “Twitter As A Tool For Social Media”. I admit that I am one of Guy’s 91,926 followers on Twitter (the number went up from when I started this post till I was ready to post) so I’m looking forward to hearing what he has to say on the subject.
Guy’s newest book is out and entitled “Reality Check: The Irreverent Guide to Outsmarting, Outmanaging, and Outmarketing Your Competition. Prime Visibility is hosting a book signing at their booth (#224) following Guy’s keynote address between 10:15 – 11:15 a.m. The first 40 people to arrive will receive a free autographed copy. PV Media Group, Prime Visibility’s parent company, is now selling advertising inventory for Alltop.com, the news aggregation website and “online magazine rack” co-founded by Guy Kawasaki.
The panel sessions for Day 1 are broken down into these various theme tracks: Search & The Fundamentals, Search & The Fear Economy, Search & The C-Level Executive, Search & Measurement and Search & The Future. Planning your day and what sessions you’ll be attending is key. For those that are new to this event, the “First-timer’s Guide to SES & SEM is a great place to start. I attended this last year and it really did help me to get the most out of the conference.
There are also some great networking events going on to socialize and discuss the various panels with other attendees and speakers, and to find out what you may have missed. I’m here on my own, so I do plan on attending some of these to meet some people in person that I’ve made friends with online through social networking.
Tonight there is a networking charity party happening at the Heartland Brewery in Union Square. For a $50 donation you get open bar and all money raised goes to helping someone with cancer. I’m not making this one though since I’m having dinner with my daughter Kelsey, the NYU student. I promised to donate my money to the poor college student fund instead.
Tomorrow night there’s quite a few networking events going on that I’m going to try and make. First is the SES cocktail reception that’s sponsored by OnDialog from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The Chitika TweetUp is from 5 –7 at O’Lunney’s Pub on W 45th St (you need to find out how to get the free beer). The SEMPO Annual Meeting Networking event starts at 6:15 p.m. that you needed to register online first. One more TweetUp rounds out the evening from 8-9 at the Old Castle Pub. So, it’s going to be a long day tomorrow. You’ll have follow me here on Twitter to keep up.
